last night’s meteor shower- my first of many
i’m officially hooked on meteor showers. last night, i experienced my first one, supposedly the “most promising” of all showers - the quadrantids. the shower happens every five years, so i’m definitely going to wait for the next one to come around.

justin luckily had great camping gear, so he packed up his head light (the coolest thing you could put on your head, in my opinion), tons of jackets, and a set of binoculars. we drove 15-20 miles down the pacific coast highway at 2:30am to point dume and hiked about 10 minutes to a bench for comfortable viewing pleasure.
we were both afraid we wouldn’t see a thing, especially because we could still see all the light pollution from la in the southern sky and the light pollution from the late-setting moon (it didn’t officially set until 2:45am). but we saw at least 3-5 meteors per minute once 3am hit.
seeing the 3rd, 4th and 40th meteors felt just as exhilarating as seeing the 1st. can’t wait til the next shower, though next time, screw viewing it in la. we’re going to joshua tree.
